You should read this article and learn about Prezi.

 Historical background:

  • Launched in 2009
  • Created by three Hungarians Adam Somlai-Fischer, Peter Halacsy and Peter Arvai.
  • In Hungarian Prezi is a short term for presentation

How it works :

  • Edit your point:
    • Write on it,
    • Choose the font, the color and the background color
    • Add an image (make it bigger, move it, rotate it)
    • Add a frame (It sets the area you show to the audience):
      • Bracket
      • Circle
      • Invisible
      • Rectangle
    • Add arrows

    • Rotate your canvas
    • Add music

 Why using it?:

  • It personalize a presentation
  • It simplifies the information
  • It is entertaining (still not convinced ? This video will convince you ! (almost only with its music) )
  • The colors and images help to remember
  • Learning is turned into something funny
  • Is looks professional
  • Sky is the limit with Prezi

How a teacher can use it in a class:

  • Take all the PowerPoint presentations on turn them into Prezi by:
    • Pasting them on a Prezi canvas
    • Zoom in on each point
    • Add some images for each points to facilitate assimilation
    • Add some animations
    • Add YouTube links directly on the canvas
  • Ask students to use it for presentations instead of paper versions
  • Use Prezi with language learners who are beginners
    • Can be used as a storyteller
    • The use of image can be helpful

 Thumbs up

  • Power of visual
  • No need to open a youtube page you can load it directly on your pezi
  • Transition possibilities are unlimited
  • More themes than Powerpoint
  • Up to 10 persons can work on the presentation on the same time (all need an account)
  • Desktop version, running without internet

 Thumbs Down

  • Graphs have to imported, they cannot be created on Prezi
  • More difficult to print out notes out of Prezi                                                                                                               (Each pages have to be turned into PDF to be printed out)
  • Few choices of font

My personal opinion about it:

  • Creating a prezi is a long journey even if this guy claims that it is easy. It is not as straightforward use as our old buddy powerpoint. Patience is a requirement that I do not have to use this website. Of course it is a wonderful way to make lectures interesting, but it takes too much for me to use it on a daily basis.
  • Another element that I disliked about this website is that all the presentations created on this website is available to the world. This is important information to know before sharing information that cannot become public because the Prezi presentation you make are associated with your name. I learned this by googling my own name and finding an old Prezi that made two years ago. Be ware!
